Critical Review
1.
Briefly describe
the context of your project. Describe how a range of critical perspectives
helped you realise this idea.
In my project I explore the survival strategy titled Stockholm Syndrome
and through I broke this down into three chapters; captivity, divine
intervention and carnal knowledge. I looked at a range of artists,
photographers and creatives such as Tyler Kohlkoff, Frank Ocean and Lana Jay
Lackey.
2.
How did you use
your researched contextual perspectives to develop your project?
My research heavily influenced my exploration and outcome, the most
influencal being past cases of Stockolm Syndrome, medical journals and
interviews from my target market. Key
points from this intial research is what formed my chapters and responses within
my project and exploration of other magazines developed my final layout, themes
and presentation of my outcome.
3.
Please discuss your
exploration of alternative ideas and how they led you to your final outcome.
Producing mock ups helped me produce my final magazine as I explore layout within each theme and made it
quicker to put all my images together in the final mock ups of my magazine.
Creating mock ups allowed me to keep editing my presentation through crits from
peers and my tutor, to make sure the final outcome was to it’s best standard.
4.
What systems did
you use to plan, organise and develop your project? Please reflect on the
effectiveness of these tools.
To help me plan my time during FMP, I created an intial timeplan, which I
kept updating, split my title into 3 chapters and produced mindmaps in sections.
I found splitting my title up and mindmapping helped me develop a plan which I
could stick to as it was less rigid, however I found the timeplan hard to stick
to.
5.
Discuss practical
skills you employed to realise your project. Describe how you explored, adapted
and stretched your skills and knowledge. Are there specific skills you have
developed that will affect your future course/career? If so, describe said
skill.
I feel I developed my film photography within this project, which is
something I would like to persue further in my creative career. I feel I am
still in the process of developing my ability within photography and film but I
enjoyed learning from my mistakes and feel I have improved. I have also
collaborated and used interview techniques within my magazine, which is
something I hadn’t done before but I enjoyed and felt it added more critical
content to my outcome. I also, although I didn’t continue, started to
experiment with moving image and video editing software, which I surprisingly
really enjoyed and would like to continue to experiment with in the future.
6.
What type of
evaluation and reflective records did
you keep? How did a continuous analysis help you to inform and develop ideas?
Provide specific examples.
I anaylsed and evaluation my progess and other aspects, such as
exhibitions, crit feedback, problems faced and my final outcome, within
annotations in my sketchbook but majorily in my blog. This helped me to
understand how to move forward within my project; reflecting on what worked and
what didn’t.

7.1. Discuss the range of considered strategies you employed
to present your personal project.
To help me produce my outcome, I considered what would meet my customer’s
needs and suit my theme, I also researched several magazines to help me
understand layout and creating a narrative with a publication. Taking into
account this research, I produced several mockups that I kept editing which led
me to final magazine presentation.
7.2. Who is your audience/customer? State what type of end
user you had in mind for this project, and how/where project would be
presented.
My audience is a customer of Sedition Magazine, which New York-based
magazine who creates a contemporary contextualised narrative within their niche
and creative imagery. My customer would be open-minded creative, liberal and
interested in all aspects of culture, politics and the human experience.

Overall summary:
Describe a few key points to take away from this experience, and a few things
to change about your approach to creative production.
My experience during FMP was challenging but I feel I have developed a
variety of skills and have come closer to figuring out who I am as a creative.
I have learnt how important it is to stick to a timeline and set self-directed
deadlines in order to have as much feedback as possible before creating a final
outcome. I have also learned to enjoy exploring titles in-depth and taking
route which were not intially obvious. In the future, I want to be more strict
within my timeline and make sure I have explored and experimented as much as
possible.
