Before fashion rotation started we were told research an art movement or theme, I chose to look at geometric and graphic art, and choose an image that we find interesting.
I chose the below image because I liked the use of geometric shapes, grid-like dots, use of colour and patterns, and the digital aspect of the piece.

Our first task was to take different parts of this image and sketch the individual sections. I found this a little bit harder due to all the dots but decided not to concentrate too much on the space filled by these.
These sketches were to be used as inspiration to produce 3D sample shapes out of sheets of paper. I found it quite difficult to take my sketches from 2D to 3D and express them within the paper samples, and think most of them aren't very representative of my sketches. I was surprised how frustrating I found working with paper was, and feel if I took more time and was more patient I could have come up with better, more accurate representations.
However, I did like a few of the shapes I produced, even if it was hard to see the link between the sketches and paper forms.
We were then told to produce 6 larger prototypes of our favourite previous sample, I chose this piece because I liked the lines it produced and thought it was one of the more representatives samples. This piece was also easier to reproduce similar samples.
Next, we got into groups of three and used all our large samples to create sculptural fashion pieces on mannequins, using pins. We were given a couple of minutes to create and sketch our finished piece, then we dissembled the piece and moved on to a different space to create a piece with samples from a group previously working a different mannequin.
I actually really enjoyed quickly creating and sketching these designs and finding interesting ways of laying out other peoples designs. I wish we had tried to push our pieces a little further to create really out of the box designs, but, with the fast nature of this task, I feel our creations were successful and had fun making them.
