For the second day of our fashion rotation, we were told to bring in a mood board surrounding a single theme or movement; I chose geometric art.
We then started to create our wearable piece out of paper, inspired by this mood board.
I started to create geometric cone-like pieces, using cutting and folding of paper, in a variety of sizes.
At first I found it difficult to start as I kept overthinking the designs, but as soon as a started I found it became easier to just create the piece than concentrating too much on design and placement.
I pinned these geometric shapes to my mannequin until I was happy with the placement. I was trying to create a structural vest-type product and wanted to keep the volume on the shoulders, back and chest. Although when I cut 'arm' holes in the shoulders, the structure and volume of the piece fell a bit flat.
However, the back still had volume and structure so I decided I would make the back the front, and play around with positioning on my model to ensure the piece looked geometric. I then used PVA glue to glue the pieces together, this was quite hard as the glue took a while to dry and was quite messy.
Overall I'm happy with it, even though it's not as shapely and geometric as I had envisioned but I feel that it can be manipulated on my model to look interesting during my shoot.
We then received peer and group feedback on our mood board and wearable piece, my group thought my piece had more of an angular than geometric theme, so I went back and worked further on my mood board to represent my design better.
