FP 7 Deadly Sins: Indroduction

To introduce us to the 7 Deadly Sins project, we started off watching a fashion film created by Show Studio in collaboration with Edward Enninful, Nick Knight and Beat by Dre . The film was based on the idea of the Seven Deadly Sins, looking at the different ideas connected to each sin whether that is through fashion, styling, colour etc. It took a modern twist and perspective on the sins and made them more recognisable in today’s society linking them to social media. The video itself was edited in a way that felt quite overwhelming to the eye, there was a lot of sound, overlapping effects and graphics which allowed the footage to stand out and grasp the attention of its viewers.

I decided to start my research on the sin Greed, as I thought it would be interesting due to the connotations that go alongside it and was excited to see what references I could find.

On the second session of this project, we were introduced to a new tutor who will be helping us with ideas, research and contextual knowledge for our project. I found this really helpful as it allowed me to gain some ideas from someone who is an expert in the industry with contextual research so allowed me to develop my ideas and was a push in the right direction. Luckily enough, she went through the sin Lust with the class as an example of how she would go into research with the sin and where she would look. This really inspired me and helped me look in the right direction around the idea of prostitution and perhaps look at interviews with them and see their side of the story. From this, we then had to create an A3 mood board which I put into my sketchbook. I struggled with the mood board at first as I tried to think of ideas that were obviously linked to the sin but also contrasting and original.

As a class, we were split into groups and went to the library to read, take out and scan in book pages to help us without research. I haven’t really thought about going to the library much with this course as I felt that the internet was a lot easier and quicker to access however from this session, it has made me realise the importance of going and finding research myself and scanning things into reference and add to my sketchbook.
The session as helpful as it was, got slightly distracted by the idea of researching and referencing so we didn’t get to concentrate that much on creating a mood board so had to create them ourselves in our own time.
