LFW: Fashion Scout

We were given an amazing opportunity to work with Fashion Scout during London Fashion Week, which was something I had never even come close to experiencing and am very grateful to be given the chance to get an insight into what the industry is truly like, and I'm excited to apply again next year. My role, which was to work in the back of house as a dresser, entailed that I helped designers with any jobs they needed before they showed their collection on the runway.

I learnt being a dresser meant either one of two things, standing around waiting for when your help was needed or going 200 miles per hour running around making sure the collections actually gets on the runway. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed the stress and adrenaline of the busy hustle before the show, which surprised me as I did not think I was able to cope with such high stress. When we were waiting to be called for a specific designer, I found myself searching for other jobs to do as I wanted the bustle to continue.  This experience really proved to and inspired me to pursue a career in a fashion industry.

My time with Fashion Scout taught me how fast-paced the industry is and I found after the experience was finished I had an increased motivation to finish tasks quicker and to more specific deadlines. I also felt I grew as an individual with regards to confidence and communication within a team, as I learnt it was so important to be on the same page as everyone in your team for a smooth experience. The experience was different to what I expected with regards to how friendly everyone was, everyone I met was very informative and I felt that they wanted me to have a good experience in addition to complete the jobs I was given.

The only thing I regret is not bringing my camera in to snap pictures of the business of backstage, as I feel this would not only embed the things I have learnt from this experience but also could have been an opportunity to play with documentary photography, something I would really like to develop further.
