Before LFW, we got into groups for a collaborative Marketing project which entailed choosing a label from Fashion Scouts designers and, through research, creating a campaign.
Firstly we discussed which designer we would begin researching, and we chose Maddie Williams due to her fresh take on sculptural garments. We assigned roles and I took the roles of prop/costume designer and group leader. I wanted to challenge myself in this project as I was motivated by the final pitch to the Media Director of Fashion Scout, therefore I chose to be the group leader, which meant reporting back to Celina and chasing up on my group members.
We brainstormed the concept 'Cultivated Plastics' for our project, developed from Maddie's ethos, and set every member a theme from our concept and the designer's philosophy to research. I started to research recycled materials, weaving and West African Masquerade costumes. Through this research, I started to develop props and a costume from recycled materials for our campaign.
During our group leader crit, we were to report if our group was on our timeline and show Celina what we had produced. We received positive feedback on our concept, Greta's collages and installation ideas, and my Maddie Williams inspired costume. Unfortunately, I struggled to be a strong leader and direct everyone in their roles and our group was very behind on our schedule, and this showed with the amount of work we had produced. To combat this, I reported back to my group that we needed cleared roles and deadlines, as we were all doing a little bit of everything instead of one clear thing.
We decided that we would organise a mock shoot that had more of an emphasis on the ideas we received positive feedback on, such as Greta's Ai Wei Wei references and my costume. However, the plan did not quite go to plan as our location didn't suit our designer and concept. So we decided that after our work experience with LFW, we would create our own set inspired by the props and costumes we had made with recycled materials. I continued to create more props and another costumer over the weekend for our final shoot.
